Why Wallpaper a Room?

Painting a room has been the most popular choice of room decoration for many years, offering a cheap, quick and easy solution to revamping any room in your home.

It might take only a couple of hours to completely repaint a full room a single colour to give it a fresh feeling and make it a more pleasurable room to be in.

However, as fast and simple painting is, it is a process that might have to be repeated once every two or three years to keep the room looking nice and up-to-date.

Not having to repeat the process every couple of years is one of the biggest benefits of wallpapering. A good wallpapering job can last up to 15 or more years before it needs replacing.

Although painting a room can instantly brighten it up and give it a fresh feeling, it can be a little bit boring as it is simply one big block of colour. This is where wallpapering really takes the advantage.

Beautifully designed wallpaper with impressive and attractive patterns will give your room more character and gives you the opportunity to express yourself within the surroundings of your own home by hanging wallpaper that reflects you.

Many people decide to paint all walls but one, and wallpaper what is known as a “feature wall”, named so because it is the main featuring wall in the room because it has nicely designed wallpaper, rather than blandly coloured walls.

Wallpaper also tends to be a more durable solution for covering walls. Many wallpapers are now washable – no, not in a washing machine! – but with a soft, damp, warm cloth and rubbed slowly as to not wear straight through the paper.

When paint gets marked, it is a bit trickier to remove stains. Some experts swear by the use of lemon juice and peanut butter lightly rubbed into the stain and washed off, but the chances of dulling the paint and making a bigger mark is increased.

Wallpaper pasting

Previously, comparing the effort required for preparation of redecorating worked in favour of painting, as all that was required is sanding down of the walls to ensure they are smoothed over before repainting, if you are repainting the same colour. If you were going to paint the wall a different colour to what it is, you would usually need to completely sand the old coat off, to ensure no colour came through the new coat.

With new technologies, techniques and equipment, removing wallpaper is a quick and easy task. Combine that with a well-done job in the first place by proper application and fitting, and wallpaper can literally fall off the walls ready for a new design to go up.

Putting up paper might be a difficult task if you have to navigate a couple of corners, especially if you have to match up a pattern, but painting is an equally as precise task as you have to ensure that there are no brush lines left on your coat, and that you haven’t accidentally marked the skirting.
